Segment 4

I wanted to share with you an insight I had the other day. I was reading an article about radical losers. You can go out to my blog and get the reference. The idea being that the root causes of 9/11 were not foreign policy failures on the part of the United States, but because radical Islam in the form of the jihadis are having a hard time with cognitive dissonance. What I mean is that when a person or a group of people have a belief about what the truth is and Reality has a problem with that, then people start doubting Reality, because to admit they are wrong is impossible without losing something important to them. It's a very human thing to do, but Reality has a way of grinding away at people like who will not accept what is the truth. Reality will not be denied.

The members of al-Queda and other radical Islamic groups are angry with us because we have succeeded and we should not have succeeded, because the Qu'ran says that only the people of Islam, the Ummah, deserve the good stuff AND only by adhering to Islam can a person attain a good life. By succeeding without adhering to Islam, we of the West tempt the children of Islam to abandon the ways of their fathers. For that sin, we must be killed.

For some reason that analysis cannot penetrate the fog that floats around the Left. If you are of the Left, I need to tell you a story that illustrates what the jihadis are mad about. This is just a story, it did not happen, but... listen up.

There was this English professor at Melpomene College in Florida by the name of Frank McDonald. Good ol' Dr. McDonald luuvvved football. The college's team had at one time been a powerhouse in football, but no more. In 1994 season, the football team had a 0-11 in league play and the coach got the boot. Frank wrangled the chairmanship of the search committee for a new coach. Finally he was going to be able to root for his college's team, because they were going to have the best coach available.

In addition, Dr. McDonald pulled the freshman orientation for the month of May. A nineteen year old Black girl came in and they started to talk. She wanted an engineering degree, but not at a big school. She loved football. She was NOT impressed with the school's football team. Dr. McDonald made it clear that this was going to improve. In fact, he, Frank, was on the search committee for a new football coach for the team.

The girl, Lois Mason, sat back a moment and then said slowly, "You know... my dad is an offensive coach for a professional team. He's been wanting to move to a college for a while."

Dr. McDonald said, "REALLY... Isn't that INTERESTING?!"

One thing led to another and Benjamin Franklin Mason showed up at Melpomene for an interview. Frank took him around campus. They talked to some the assistant coaches and some of the team from the year before. Then Frank took him to dinner with some of the other members of the search committee. Ben was looking to be too good to be true. Everyone was impressed, but they couldn't believe that a man like him would consider the job. Over dinner Ben said, "You know, this seems like a very Liberal college."

Everyone laughed. The Political Science professor on the committee said, "Yeah, 88% of the students who voted in 1992, went for the Democratic Party. It was higher than that in the 1994 election, because there was no Republican running for the House."

Ben said, "Well, you know, I'm a Republican. My father was county chair for the Republican Party for most of the 1950's. My grandfather was a Buffalo Soldier. My great-grandfather was the first Black to be elected to any county post in Texas. If that bothers you,... well, I'm not going to change. I know for a fact that Democrats have hurt Blacks worse than any Klansman." That went over with a thud. Everyone around the table started looking at him like he'd grown horns. The idea that an African American COULD be a Republican was alien to their way of thinking.

Frank was appalled. His committee was snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He was NEVER going to have a good football team at his school.

Coach Mason went home. Dr. McDonald had to do some FANCY footwork to salvage Ben's chances, but he did do it.

Benjamin Franklin Mason started as head coach for the Fall of 1995 with a five year contract. He came in too late. The school should have made an offer to someone in February, but stuff happens. In the 1995 season, Melpomene (mel-pah-meh-nee) had a 4-7 in league play. In 1996, they had a 8-3 and went to finals, but lost in the first round. In 1997, they had a 9-2 and got to the finals, but lost the championship game. In 1998 and 1999, Melpomene (mel-pah-meh-nee) had an 11-0 season and won their conference. Dr. McDonald was ecstatic.

Lois Mason graduated summa cum laude in the Spring of 1999.

One day in the Spring of 2000, Coach Mason showed up at Dr. McDonald's office. he said, "Look, the College Republicans, all seven of them, want me be their faculty advisor. Is there going to be a problem with that?"

Frank couldn't quite figure that one out. Who in his right mind would be a Republican? Why would ANY of the kids on campus WANT to join the College Republicans? He was baffled, but said laughing, "Seven? That many, eh?... As long as you don't run for public office, then you're okay. Umm... I hope you aren't going to be upset with a lopsided loss this fall. I mean, I want the football team to succeed. If you quit in a huff, I shall be MOST upset."

Ben laughed too, and said, "I'll be doing voter registration. You might be surprised what happens..."

The 2000 Presidential election heated up and the College Republicans at Melpomene became THE club to join, because the football jocks were there AND because they held the best parties.

But the College Republicans went over the top. They put up signs three days before the November election that said, "Did you ever ask your parents why they didn't abort you? Maybe you should. If you don't like the answer, you should vote Republican." That slogan went over like a nuclear bomb. Before the Democratic Party could do anything, too many kids did just that, called their parents and asked why the parents had not aborted them. Too many of them HATED the answers they got. When the final tally was made, out of 3043 votes cast on campus, 1560 went for Bush and 1483 went for Gore. The Supreme Court ruled and George W. Bush was President.

The faculty at Melpomene was horrified. They blamed Coach Mason for George Bush becoming President. The number of votes from their ONE precinct made the difference in Florida. Even though he had led his team to the championship for the past two years, Coach Mason's five year contract was not renewed. Plus Dr. McDonald was forced to resign because he brought the guy there and fought for the renewal of his contract.

Coach Mason went back to being an offensive coach in the professionals with a six figure income. The dot com bubble burst and left Dr. McDonald broke and working at... McDonalds.

Now... what does that story about a Black football coach in Florida have to do with why the jihadis are fighting a terrorist war against the West? Think about it. Suppose you were that English professor. Try to do a mind meld with him. Who would he blame for all his troubles? Coach Mason of course, but why would he blame Coach Mason? You got think about that. Dr. McDonald had the world view that Blacks HAVE to be Democrats, plus the students at his College, HAD to vote Democrat. Coach Mason had tempted the kids from the path of righteousness. He was the most evil person on earth by the standards of Dr. McDonald and his peers, because he had allowed George Bush to become President. If you ARE a Liberal, TRY to consider the story in that context.

As I said before, the root causes of 9/11 are not US foreign policy failures. The problem for the jihadis is that we tempt their kids from the true path AND compound our evil by succeeding when we should NOT succeed. Get it through your head that according to their interpretation of the Qu'ran, only those who are part of Islam can be considered fully human. If someone is not fully human and has a better life than the followers of radical Islam, then they must have stolen the good life from the Muslims. To those who adhere to radical Islam, these evil ones must be killed or punished and their civilization sundered.

If you cannot get your mind around this, you need to read books by Bernard Lewis, one of the premier scholars of Islam. Go to the Library of Congress site and get references to any one of his books. You will see what I am talking about. If you cannot afford to buy one of his books, then please use Interlibrary Loan.
