I'm going to play cuts from the album is called Mexico by Stan Swiniarski. The first one is called, They Called Me An American.
Can you see that scene in your mind? The bright blue of the sky against the skyscraper. Two men sitting on an I-beam six floors up in the air. The American born here suddenly confronted with the evil that was the Soviet system. Could you do that? Walk away from a home where your ancestors had lived for centuries? The immigrant gets to Italy. Whether you know it or not, refugees were shuffled all over Europe. So winding up in Italy as a first stop then Germany. Yeah, that's possible. He talks about having no freedom of religion or being unable to dream any dreams unless the government approves.
I have always felt that the immigrants to this country have kept this country on an even keel. I mean, we proclaim certain values and tell the world that we believe certain things. The immigrants come here expecting the values that we have sold to them. Born Americans then have to put up or shut up. Over and over again down through the history of the United States. Americans born here have had to confront stories of evil that the immigrants tell about back home and be thankful that they were born here. Those stories of back home have always kept us moving forward. Each wave of immigrants meet resistence from the Americans born here, but the immigrants assimilate and move up in our society. They share their dreams and make this country better.
The problem we're having lately is two fold. Too many of our educators have a weird idea that assimilation is evil. They believe that down through history America has been a blight on the world. Every evil of the world can be dropped at the door step of the United States.
If the United States had not been formed, the nature loving Native Americans could have continued their idyllic existence. The Africans would not have been enslaved.
But we were formed. Because of that all the Third World has been pillaged by the Imperialists from the United States. Had we not gone there and infected them with Capitalism they would be, oh, so much better off. The litany of our sins go on and on and on.
I find their litany of our sins to be... silly, because of the immigrants to our country and stories like the one in this song. If our country is such a rotten place, then why are the newest immigrants so sure that we are better than what is back home.
Throughout the world a new day is dawning. America is slowly but surely wearing down the despots and tyrants and governments run by kleptomaniacs. Ronald Reagan always that we were the shining city on the hill. We are a beacon that causes people from around the world to be better than they are. Because we exist, the tyrants of the world have to explain why they cannot provide the freedom that the US provides for its citizens. Their explanations become more and more hollow.
As I've said before, Communism, Socialism and Liberalism will not work in the real world, because they have a failure rate of about 80%. Capitalism has a failure rate of about 20%. Maybe you don't understand what I mean. Capitalism provides a middle class lifestyle or above to 80% of the citizens in this country. Communism, Socialism and Liberalism can provide a middle class lifestyle to only 20% of any populous that implements it as the theory behind their society. Again, the reason the forms of Communism fail because they cannot produce master craftsmen. In the song, I just played, the immigrant is making it clear that under Communism, he could not dream, so he was even able to try without government permission. Of course to many on the Left, equal misery is better than unhappiness for the minority. And here is the kicker. Even the 20% in this country who are not in the middle class or above are better off than the absolute rich in most other countries.
What has happened is that we have established what is supposed to be normal in a country. Think about it. Should it be normal for a citizen of a country to constantly fear that the government will come kill them? In certain countries right now that is the normal mode of thought. Why is that a good idea?
